Monday morning: a new leaf. Same thing every week

Ok, so it can’t just be me who does this. Every Monday I have a fresh start… for everything. It’s the same pattern every week; I wake up on Monday full of good intentions, with big ideas of a new healthy lifestyle, a more positive attitude, doing actual exercise…

The day usually starts off well and I tend to make it through until about dinner time before I crack and pretty much stick my head in the sugar bowl. After that, I write the rest of the week off, knowing full well I’ll be attempting the whole thing again next Monday.

I couldn’t possibly have a fresh start on, say, a Wednesday. It just wouldn’t be right. It wouldn’t work. It has to be a Monday. By the time Sunday night comes around I’m usually planning my new start for the next week. Never do I stick to it. It’s like making New Year resolutions every single week. I should probably just give up and accept the way I live (no exercise, far too much sugar, slightly dehydrated, always high on caffeine) but I feel like I should be doing more.

Here’s an example of my new start goals:

  • Start each day with lemon and hot water
  • Drink at least 1.5 litres water/day
  • Eat at least 7 portions fruit and veg/day
  • Try to get at least 7 hours sleep/night
  • Eat some good quality (vegetarian) protein every day
  • Cut back on sugar and caffeine
  • Take a positive approach to all things
  • Get outside for a walk every day
  • Do pelvic floor exercises every day
  • Do some kind of exercise at least 3 times each week

So here I am on Monday evening, having just polished off a large Dairy Milk (one for sharing), a Mars bar, and about six gallons of tea. Oops. The day started off well at least, and I did manage my lemon water, fruit and veg and a short walk. But then chocolate happened, and not even a little bit.

Oh well. Next Monday’s only a week away.

  1. Absolutely LOVE this post. I could have written it myself (not as well though I’m sure). Totally agree with you, you can’t possibly fresh start on Wednesday. If it’s any constellation I do love what you strive to put into place, it’s a much better list than my own. The thoughts there though right? That’s 50% done! Good luck for monday hehe! #dreamteam

  2. :-O This is exactly what I am like! *Nods along whilst slurping a giant mug of tea. It all seems like such a great idea on Sunday, even Monday morning at a push. Then opps… it’s almost the end of the week and time to start again. A fab post! Love it. Thanks so much for linking up to the #DreamTeam x

  3. Oh yes! Especially the sleep one. Last night was going to be an early night, then I saw an exciting e-mail and that was that. I am campaigning for accessible Changing Places toilets in the UK and a journalist got in touch so there was a good reason. Then I started browsing to unwind and it is now 1:26am…

    1. This happens to me every day! I wake up so tired and swear I’ll go to bed early. By bedtime I’m only just unwinding from the day and end up on Twitter and Instagram until the early hours! Good luck with your campaign! 🙂

  4. Well you’re already doing better than I! I don’t even bother to set goals as I know I won’t stick to them, or the girls will do something that will upset my plans. I love the chocolate top, I need one!#MMBC

    1. I don’t know why I still set them but I do! Thank you, I love this jumper, it was a Christmas present last year, it’s from Pull and Bear. Chocolate is my friend. Thanks for your comment 🙂

  5. Haha. I WISH I could stick to my good intentions! I have to set an alarm to remind me to do my pelvic floor exercises and I still sometimes manage to forget to do them. And my chocolate consumption has gone through the roof. Oh well … there’ s always next Monday … #brillblogposts

    1. Haha, I have the same alarm and I always ignore it! Chocolate basically gets me through the day. Roll on Monday, good luck! 🙂

    1. Yes, you’re right, perhaps it’d be better to do it step by step. I’m so ‘all or nothing’ though! But I agree, far too much pressure! Thanks for your comment 🙂
