Sooo… gosh, it’s been a while! I’ve been so caught up with ‘stuff’ I haven’t managed to post much recently. I’ve just about kept up with Instagram and Twitter, but blog posts have been a step too far. I’m not going to lie, I’ve probably had the chance a couple of times, but I chose sleep. Sleep won. Sorry.
Well, what a summer we had! We were blessed with so much glorious sunshine… more than I can remember ever having before! Maybe it’s because I’m on maternity leave so I’ve actually been at home to appreciate it, but I genuinely feel that this has been the sunniest summer I’ve ever known.
Anyway, to summarise, the last couple of months have been taken up playing host to a million several visitors, continuing the weaning journey with Baby J, doing some excellent gardening (in pots, but still), and generally trying to keep a 9 month old (yes, 9 months…whaaaat) entertained.
We had a deluge of guests during August. Seriously. About three weeks were taken up with people staying. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean to sound unwelcoming, but I do struggle with having people in the house for any length of time. I need my order and routine, and having extra bodies milling around and getting involved with everything is difficult for me. The way I see it, I have a house, you have a house, let’s all stay in our own houses, right? And maybe Skype every so often? Well apparently it doesn’t work like that, so once in a while Dan makes me have visitors and I just have to suck it up. August was one of those months. It’s also probably why I haven’t posted much recently.
Continuing our weaning journey
Anyhoo, in other news, we’ve continued to wean Baby J. I don’t mean to brag, but she is such a good eater! I might be setting myself up for a fall here, but seriously, that girl likes food! I’m still using the Ella’s Kitchen pouches when I need to as they’re so convenient, but I’ve also enjoyed cooking batches of food and freezing it in little pots. Honestly, I feel like I’m winning at being mum when I put those pots of blended home-made food in the freezer <fist pumps>. Basically, whenever I make a meal with no added stock or nasties, I make extra and blend it up. Favourites so far include vegetable lasagne, lentil daal, carrot and spiced lentil soup, and Baby J’s all-time favourite, chargrilled Mediterranean vegetable and feta tart.
Gardening has also been high up on our agenda lately. We’ve decided to take a low-maintenance approach to our garden and put most things in pots to make it more manageable (neither Dan or I are particularly green-fingered). We dug out a border and set it with bricks and pebbles.
We’ve taken endless trips to garden centres to check out their plants (and their cafes) and have ended up with some really cool things. Favourites include some bamboo, a Japanese Acer tree, and this cute little chimnea.
So, I’m going to try to be better with my blog posts from now on. Look out for the following: Sleep: a distant memory, Travels to Spain, A peek inside my changing bag: Autumn edition, and Staying grateful.
What have you been up to over the last couple of months?
